| About the Region |

Bundaberg is the jumping off point to the Great Barrier Reef's most southern and most accessible Islands - Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave. Both of these Islands are world class dive spots and have regular flights and boat trips daily. Whale watching day trips are organized in season and one of the world's finest turtle rookeries is at Mon Repos Beach. Our Rum Distillery is known far and wide - as is the product! The region is also becoming known for several fine wineries. There are annual Arts Festivals, Kite Festivals, Food Festivals and the Dance and Speech and Drama Eisteddfod grows each year. Alpacas are bred nearby, we have some very mysterious crater formations, ultra light designers, specialty coffee growers, hemp production trials .... a truly diverse and interesting region. Bundaberg City has been the main centre for the local sugar industry and is famous for the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Bundaberg Regional Council is our new amalgamated council now covering the coastal regions as well as rural. Airport update: The runway extensions are complete and work has now completed on the terminal. The council is in discussions with another carrier in competition with Qantas and to potentially provide direct flights to Melbourne and Sydney. We are hoping for news of an alternative service soon! This will make a big difference to the entire area - allowing Melbourne and Sydney people to travel here direct! This is undoubtedly an area with the potential to attract new businesses setting up or relocation of existing business or industry. It also is immensely desirable as a holiday destination. However the greatest appeal is that of the lifestyle opportunities and advantages it offers to its residents. More recently however the emphasis is shifting towards the increasingly popular Eco tourism industry in which the Bundaberg area has a huge future. The city has all the attributes and infrastructure to ensure that this can happen. There are State Government offices, shopping centres featuring major chains, individual shops and restaurants, motels, B and Bs, etc. There are excellent bus routes that link the coastal areas and the individual suburbs of the city itself. Bundaberg has both public and private medical facilities . |
